The term quantum technologies describes the utilization of quantum systems for the new development and the improvement of existing technological applications. For this purpose, single quantum mechanical states (e.g. the state of a single atom or photon) are manipulated and measured to exploit quantum mechanical phenomena.
Areas of great interest among these technologies are for example quantum information theory and quantum cryptography, as well as quantum sensors, which can exceed the precision of their classical counterparts by orders of magnitude.
In our group we investigate the development and implementation of new concepts for optical components and setups to create new possibilities in this technological field. We further take interest in the metrological characterization of single photon emitters and detectors for their application in these areas.
